Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Iran has no interest in talks with the United States, responding to US President Donald Trump's claim that Tehran wants a deal to end the war.

"We are quite stable and strong. We are only protecting our people," Araqchi told CBS's Face the Nation program on Sunday.

"We see no reason to talk to the Americans," he said. "Because when we were talking to them, they decided to attack us," he added.

"There is no good experience talking to the Americans," he added.

Trump said on Saturday that Iran wanted to make a deal but was not ready to make a deal under the current conditions. He did not elaborate.

"We never asked for a ceasefire and we did not even request talks," Araqchi said.

He added that Iran was ready to talk to countries interested in discussing the passage of certain oil tankers through the vital Strait of Hormuz.

"I cannot name any specific countries," Araqchi said. "However, several countries have contacted us, who want to ensure the safe passage of their ships."
