Chhatra Dal leader arrested in Barisal in extortion racket case
Police have arrested Monir Sardar (35), the convener of Ujirpur Upazila Chhatra Dal in Barisal, on charges of beating and injuring an employee of a dredger trader with a hammer while demanding extortion. He was arrested from the Dhamura area of the upazila on Saturday night. Following the incident, the Chhatra Dal central committee expelled him from the organization on charges of breach of organizational discipline. The arrested Monir Sardar is the son of the late Hamed Sardar of Dakshin Dhamura village in Ujirpur upazila. Confirming his arrest, the officer-in-charge of Ujirpur Model Police Station, Md. Rakibul Islam, said that on Friday night, dredger trader Monirul Islam filed a case as the plaintiff. The main accused in the case, Monirul Sardar, was arrested from the Dhamura area on Saturday night.
