It goes without saying that Saif is working extra hard to get himself back. However, Saif is not the only one who is worried about his form in this year's BPL. None of the regular faces of the Bangladesh T20 team's playing eleven are able to shine with the bat.
It is not yet certain whether Bangladesh will play in this year's T20 World Cup or not. But even if Bangladesh does play in the World Cup, the on-field performance of the batsmen in that team is not very comforting for the national team.
The national team has not been busy in international cricket for about two months before the World Cup. Even in the almost starless BPL played during this time, there is no one from the World Cup team in the list of top 10 run scorers except Parvez Hossain.
Last year, Tanjid Hasan was Bangladesh's most successful batsman in T20. This opener also held the record for the most sixes and runs in a calendar year. He has been taken by Rajshahi Warriors on a direct contract in this year's BPL.
Tanjid has great skills in utilizing the power play. But he is not able to do that in the BPL. Like Saif, his numbers are not very pleasing. So far, he has scored 10 runs off 8 balls, 20 off 15 balls, 29 off 20 balls, 2 runs off 6 balls, 2 runs off 20 balls, 5 runs off 12 balls.
However, Rajshahi Warriors coach Hannan Sarkar believes that Tanjid's off-form is temporary, saying, "I believe that those who are off-form still have time to get back into form. If you play one or two matches well in T20s, you can get your rhythm back."
T20 team captain Liton Das is also in this fight. He has played at number three in most of the matches in the national team for the past year. However, he is seen opening for Rangpur Riders in the BPL.
He started well with an innings of 47 runs off 31 balls in the first match of the tournament against Chittagong Royals, which they won by 7 wickets. But since then, the rhythm has fallen. Liton has scored 129 runs in six matches so far.
The middle-order batsmen are also unable to provide confidence. After dropping Zaker Ali, Bangladesh's big hope in the World Cup is Towhid Hridoy-Shamim Hossain and Nurul Hasan. But among them, only Shamim did his job properly one day, playing a brilliant innings of 81 runs off 43 balls. Although he could not win the match for Dhaka Capitals against Sylhet Titans, he scored 4, 11 and 1 in the next three matches.
